The Daintree is internationally recognised as a bird watching mecca, boasting over half the bird species in the entire continent of Australia.

Of the 850 bird species in Australia (including migrants), about 630 species occur in Queensland. The Wet Tropics and Cairns region alone is home to over 430 species of birds, 12 of which are local endemics.

Doug Herrington of Birdwatching Tropical Australia has more than 18 years’ experience bird watching in Port Douglas and the surrounding region. He lives and breathes his passion and loves to share his knowledge of bird calls and behaviour along with his special bird hotspots with amateur and experienced birders alike.
